Matthew Norman is a Japan-based multidisciplinary designer. He received his MFA in Design Engineering from Kyoto Institute of Technology. Coming from an architecture background, he believes that design is a building process. You have to form a solid foundation for any idea, and that starts with a concept. He is currently the creative strategist at HI(NY) Design, a creative agency based in Kyoto and NYC.
His focus is primarily in conceptualization, brand development, storytelling and design.

His focus is primarily in conceptualization, brand development, storytelling and design. He works to create brands, advertising and marketing that tell a story and make an impact. Living and experiencing a variety of places, he has developed a unique way of incorporating culture into his concepts and designs. Whether it’s subtle or overt, these lived experiences always find their way into his work – resulting in unique design solutions.
Matthew enjoys working with both local businesses to world-renowned clients starting from the initial brand strategy phase, design & creative direction, and of course, final production of the project.
He works to create brands, advertising and marketing that tell a story and make an impact. Matthew currently splits his time between Kyoto, Japan and New York City.
